David Wilson is a founder member of Leigh Ornithological Society which celebrates its 50th year on the 12th of March 2021 and was recently given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. During the last 50 years, Dave has given much of his time to saving wildlife habitat for the benefit not only for animals but for the mental health and wellbeing of the community.
A pioneer birdwatcher and conservationist in the 1960s-70s he was instrumental in saving Pennington Flash from being filed in with domestic refuse, he has fronted many causes since then and is still serving on Wigans Greenheart forum and involved in the carbon landscape, Bickersaw Country Park steering group and Pennington Flash Volunteers. Dave is also a volunteer at a local mental health group.
