At the beginning of the first Pandemic lockdown Fiona, in conjunction with representatives from other areas in Ayr, set up the Newton park part of the organisation ‘Looking Out for Each Other Ayr’ She motivated, enthused and organised many local people to communicate with, identify needs and simply help many sheltering local individuals.
What makes this stand out is the fact this was not a Government run project but was organised from the ground up. Local Democracy in action. The project ran from February to May. It was perhaps the way that she got so many people to be involved on a street to street basis.
That Fiona lives in the Newton Park is well known. She has helped out on the organisation of the Newton Park Helpers for some years with Gardening and also events in the Park. She has really helped to integrate people in the community and not just the usual suspects but new individuals and heighten the sense of community.
